From Our Mat…

We are called social animals for a good reason – Community is crucial to human beings; it gives us a sense of belonging, connection, and support. When we feel  part of a community, we are more likely to feel seen, understood, motivated, and comfortable being ourselves. A strong community encourages healthy habits, creates meaningful relationships, cultivate strong bonds, reduces loneliness.

We have always thought of YogaSukham as a commuity. We strive to create an environment where people feel welcomed, seen, and connected, not just like customers but as people, as individuals, as valuable members. Our teachers all know you by name 🙂 (Do you know your fellow practioners by name too? Next time you come to class, spot someone you have not met or chatted with and go say hello to them!)

How else can we strengthen the community?

– If you are not part of the YogaSukham FaceBook private group, search for “YogaSukham Village” in Groups and ask to join! This is your space to excahange ideas, ask questions, share experiences and build a bond with the practicing community!

– Starting September, we are bringing meditation back in practice. Each full moon night we will gather at the studio for a hour long session. Stay tuned for more details!

– To mark Diwali, the festival of lights, we are holding a Satsang/Kirtan on October 31 in the morning at the studio. Mark your calendars and stay tuned for details!

– Seva/Service has been one of our tenets – we are seeking stewards to help lead the effort. If you are interested, please reach out to us ASAP. Thank you

– Grow our community! Each one bring one! Become the catalyst to initiate a change in the life of someone you care about. Stay tuned for Referral program details!

Let us be a space with a mission, a heart, and a strong bonded community! Where we all feel we belong, grow together, and support one another. So what do you think? Write to us and let us know!

With gratitude,
Varsha & Satya

Pose Spotlight: VirBhadrAsana – I (Warrior I)

Part of the foundational standing poses series, it combines the actions of a seat, a lunge, and a lift. It requires a strong foundation through the feet and legs.

This seemingly easy looking pose can be very challenging for various reasons; restricted hip mobility, tight hip flexors, lack of leg strength, tight shoulders, lack of arm extension, and weak spinal erector muscles.

When practiced regularly, this pose builds strength, opens the chest and arms while increasing hip mobility. It also improves balance and focus.

To learn the alignment and placement of the body, beginners can start by using a chair and staying higher in the pose. Keeping legs parallel, hip width aapart is key to helping the pelvis and knees stay supported and strong and  in reducing injuries

VimanAsana, which is done with the back heel lifted and both feet facing forward, helps the upper body find extension in the arms and spine, cultivate focus, stability, and balance

What is your favorite warm up for this pose? What is your favorite prop for this pose? What is your challenge in this pose? Lets hear it!

Teacher Spotlight

Suchi Patkar

An alumna of YogaSukham’s first batch of Advanced Studies Program, Suchi came to Yoga practice because she felt burned out, anxious, and completely disconnected from her body.

“My consistent practice taught me how to breathe again — really breathe. That shift changed how I handled stress, how I spoke to myself, and how I showed up for others.

Before joining Yoga Sukham, I was a lot in my head. Stressed, tired, always rushing. I was strong outside, but I didn’t feel calm inside. My sleep was bad, my breathing was shallow, and I didn’t really listen to my body. When I joined Yoga Sukham, things slowly started to change. First my body changed. I became more flexible, then I became stronger and pain-free. The stiffness I carried for years started to release. Finally, my mind changed. Learning to breathe and pause, I learned how to calm my own anxiety without running away from it.”

Being on the mat, taught her patience and acceptance, and being present.

“I became kinder to myself. I stopped comparing. I became more present with my family and friends. I believe Yoga didn’t just change my body; it gave me back to myself.”

Suchi has been teaching at YogaSukham for the past 4 years! She says “I don’t teach poses. I help  people find a way to come home to their bodies, just like I did. I focus less on perfect shape and more on helping people feel safe in their bodies. My students often tell me they leave feeling calmer and stronger than when they walked in.”

Suchi is a  Certified QB accountant professional. in her “Spare time” she is an Accountant, a runner, and a hiker. She also loves to draw and paint.

– We  at YogaSukham salute  Suchi’s progress, committment, and her path forward, and wish her the best in her prctice and life!

Practitioner Spotlight

Shobha K

Before yoga entered Shobha’s life, movement was defined by high-impact energy: hiking mountain trails, pounding the pavement on runs, and pushing limits in the gym. But life has a way of shifting course unexpectedly. A severe ankle injury required surgery and months of grueling physical therapy, ending with a heavy verdict: she might never run again.

Uncertain and skeptical, she accepted a friend’s gentle suggestion to give yoga a try for just one month. Within two weeks, skepticism gave way to anticipation. She found herself organizing her daily calendar around classes, discovering that movement didn’t have to be about impact to be transformative. By the third month, yoga was no longer a temporary substitute for the active lifestyle she thought she had lost; it had become her lifelong anchor!

Anchoring Through Motherhood

As life evolved, Shobha’s practice became her sanctuary. Balancing a full-time career while pregnant, yoga provided the steady calm, stamina, and deep physical connection she needed, even on days fueled by very little sleep. It taught her to trust her body implicitly, paving the way for a smooth, natural delivery when her daughter arrived just six hours after her water broke. YogaSukham guided her practice throughout her pregnancy ensuring she stayed safe, modifying her practice to serve the needs of her changing body.

Today, navigating the demands of full-time work and raising a young child, she cultivates patience, clarity, and presence on the mat. Squeezing in time to practice isn’t another task on her to-do list; it is the gentle force that enables her to show up fully as a mother and a professional!

Finding Home at YogaSukham

Central to Shobha’s ongoing journey is the sanctuary she found at YogaSukham. Drawn to its commitment to authentic, traditional practice and genuine connection with people, in studio or online, Yogasukham meets her wherever she is each day. She describes YogaSukham as a Temple, a School, and a Playground!
– a temple providing a sacred space for quiet reflection.
– a school for continuous learning, guided by Satya’s gift for weaving philosophy into challenging postures and Varsha’s inspiring personal dedication.
– a playground encouraging exploration of movement and test limits while approaching the practice with joy.

A Philosophical Awakening

On the hardest days when stepping onto the mat feels like an uphill climb and the temptation to compare herself to others creeps in, Shobha remembers that simply showing up is the victory. Yoga has taught her that each person’s path is entirely unique, and honoring one’s own body is the true heart of the practice.

What began as a tentative one-month experiment after a moment of loss ultimately revealed a profound truth: transformation does not happen all at once. It is born from the quiet decision to keep showing up, breath by breath. When we surrender the need to control the outcome and step onto the mat with consistency, we don’t just change how we move; we transform how we live!

–  YogaSukham is privileged to be part of your journey Shobha! Your dedication and willingness to show up, learn, and practice is inspiring to all of us! Thank you!
