From Our Mat…
“Habit repeats what it knows. Practice continues to investigate” – This quote from The concept of Mind by Gilbert Ryle, draws a clear distinction between duplicating, repeating, and copying vs analyizing, experimenting, and exploring. This concept is at the heart of regular yoga practice.
While the pose may be the same, the practice NEVER is. We constantly evolve and change. Our body is different each day. Our state of mind, our emotional state, our stress levels, our circumstances, these are all dynamic, organic, and ever changing. Why then would we expect the practice to remain the same? Each time we get into an Asana (pose), we are actively assessing, questioning, adjusting, exploring, learning, and adapting. Yoga practice asks us to be alert and aware, not be mindless and inert.
This means, the more frequently we practice, the more we explore and learn. A regular practice helps us know our own body and mind, our strengths and weaknesses, our abilities and limitations, our fortitude and fears. A constant and regular practice helps us strengthen, build, overcome, and GROW! That is also where a teacher or a guide becomes important. Without active feedback and structure, most times, we practice in our own world, repeating what we think we know and are good at; staying away from what we fear and avoid.
Do you sometimes wonder why we practice the same poses repeatedly? Do you sometimes find yourself shutting down the inner student or inner teacher and merely going through the motions of the pose? How do you approach your practice? Do you treat each session as a learning opportunity or as a performance?
Knowing the importance of a regular, consistent, and guided practice, how often do you show up on your mat? We see so many members not being regular to practice. What drives you to come to ptactice? What keeps you? What would it take for you to become committed, regular, and consistent?
How can we help bring you in? Share your thoughts with us! We look forward to seeing more of you!
With gratitude,
Varsha & Satya

Meditation – An integral part of Yoga!
YogaSukham was started with Meditation – dhyāna (Sanskrit: ध्यान) as one of the pillars of its foundation. In the earlier pre-covid days, YogaSukham had a robust scheduled of Meditation classes. Many of our practitioners attended it regularly and benefitted immensly. In the past, we have had Full Moon and New Moon Meditation, making the practice available and accessible to those who wanted it. For some time, we also had our weekend classes extended by 15 minutes providing guided meditation opportunity at the end of class for those who wished to attend. During Covid, when the studio had gone completely virtual, we hosted online meditation sessions regularly!
We strongly believe that Meditation is not for a privileged few or a luxury for some who have the time and resources! It is an essential mind-body-breath connection & awareness with immense benefits contributing to overall wellness of humans and humanity.
So here we are, once again, introducing Full Moon Meditation sessions! It is open and free to attend (we do require you to be registered with us and sign up to attend). We hope you will attend and invite others to join us!

Pose Spotlight: VirBhadrAsana – II (Warrior II)
Warrior II is a powerful pose with a strong focus on alignment, strength, and stability. The pose helps understand the grounding and intelligent engagement of the legs, along with opening of the frontal body. This dynamic pose strengthen the shoulders, back, core, and quadriceps and gradulally creates flexibility in the hips and lower back.
In the beginning VirBhandrAsana is a hard pose to get into. The front quadriceps feel the burn when body weight is not distributed efficiently betwwen the two legs, the back foot starts to collapse when the back leg is not sharp and active, the lumbar caves in when the core is not engaged, the shoulders start hunching when the arms are lazy! There is a lot in here that can feel heavy and tiring. With practice and guidance, it blossoms into stable, stong, yet peaceful stance with a smoothe flow of breath, and soft determined gaze.
Plenty of variations and props help access and understand the intent and requirement of this pose. Resting the front thigh on a chair, engaging the back foot into a wall, reaching the back palm to a wall, pressing the front shin into a wall through a block, strapping the front thigh crease to the back foot, so many possibilities to learn from!
How do you like to practice this pose? What is your favorite prop for this pose? What is your challenge in this pose? Lets hear it!

Mamatha Pratipatti
– A person’s life changes quite a few times in their lifetime. I think of my life journey as “pre yoga life and post yoga life”
My Yoga journey began with my daughter. When she was in middle school, I wanted to introduce her to Yoga as an activity that could support her physical and mental well-being and, hopefully, become something she could carry with her through the teenage years and beyond. When I first approached Satya about having her start Yoga, Satya asked me a simple question: “Since you want your daughter to start practicing Yoga, why would’nt you join with her?”
My immidiate reaction was to say “oh no! I can’t do Yoga”. But Satya’s question made me think. If I truly want my daughter to embrace Yoga, perhaps the best encouragement would be to practice alongside her—to be an example rather than simply asking her to give it a try.
Thus, my daughter and I started coming to YogaSukham. What I hadn’t quite planned for was how much I fell in love with the practice. I schedule my days around it (sometimes I would go twice in a day)!
Yogasukham taught me to find calmness and stillness in any pose. Today, I am continously trying to find both on and off the mat. Finding this calm in my everyday life is a process and taking its time – I am grateful to YogaSukham in helping me recognize it and seek it.
A few fun facts
* I always had an adventurous spirit, travelling through most of India when I was younger and have since explored much of the eastern United
States with my husband, along with a few destinations in Europe. My ultimate travel-and-food challenge? Three meals in three different countries in one day!
* When not traveling—or dreaming about my next adventure—I like to cook and enjoy a good Rom-Com. A special weakness for Hallmark movies around Thanksgiving and Christmas and also a fan of K-dramas, especially the Rom-Coms. And for a change of pace, I enjoy the speed and excitement of F1 racing with my kids!
* Dance has also been part of my life since growing up in India, where I learned Kuchipudi. These days, I am happy dancing to Bollywood beats!
* My professional journey has had its own twists and turns. Before moving to California, I worked as an associate at a CPA firm and later as a Realtor in Massachusetts. Today, I take on seasonal work, either as an associate or with
the county.
– YogaSukham is happy to welcome Mamatha as the newest member of our faculty and we look forward to you becoming a voice of influence!
Practitioner Spotlight
Denay M
For 35 years, Denay dedicated her days to dentistry, bending over patients and quietly carrying the severe physical toll of her posture. While ergonomics maintained basic health, it required a dedicated asana practice to build genuine physical strength and resilience. Vowing to avoid the mobility struggles she witnessed in her aging parents, Denay began her fitness journey feeling weak and stiff. A few years into her yoga journey she got introduced to Yogasukham and discovered an extraordinary level of precision, where subtle anatomical details in every movement unlocked deeper physical stability and mental clarity.
Denay was a regular 6 am in-studio practitioner before she moved out of state, when she decided to try out the online classes. What began as a single weekly session quickly blossomed into a vibrant six-day-a-week practice that anchors her daily life. She receives several minor corrections online but certainly values the personal attention, corrections, advice, in-person observation, and feedback she gets whenever she visits town and attends an in-studio practice. From her own experience she strongly feels that online practitioners should make the effort to attend in-person classes periodically
Today, Denay channels that strength into demanding ranch work in Texas, where she effortlessly hauls 65-pound bales of hay, milks her goats, cleans out the barn, and feeds her chickens. Even living two hours ahead in a different time zone, she completes her morning farm chores before logging on for Yogasukham’s 6 AM online class. For Denay, practice is never a chore but a privilege; this mere shift in perception that keeps her centered and energized always!
Beyond physical transformation, Yogasukham offered Denay a warm community, close friendships, and a sacred sanctuary to quiet the mind. She has loved immersing herself in the studio’s diverse offerings, from the healing vibrations of Sound Baths to the spine-lengthening support of the ropes wall. She was also part of Yogasukham’s very first yoga teacher training cohort. She feels empowered to pay the tradition forward as she prepares to launch a new yoga class at the Breckenridge Fine Arts Center in Texas.
Despite being geographically distant, her daily virtual attendance and periodic studio visits keep her deeply anchored. Filled with immense gratitude, Denay exemplifies the transformative power of dedication, proving that true strength and centeredness flourish wherever life takes you.
– Yogasukham wishes you the very best Denay! It is a pleasure and a privilege to see you at 6:00 am everyday!
